Blog Post #7: Introduction
The world around us is becoming more and more progressive,
and in this time, we are seeing countries all over the world become more in touch
with the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana. It has become a growing phenomenon
around the Western world, and will soon be used all around the globe as other
countries start to catch on. Legalizing marijuana is a tricky subject though,
many countries are still very skeptical of the effects both economically and
socially. Nevertheless, it is a very big step for any country, and will take some
time to get used to the new crop being produced, sold, and used on a daily
basis. For countries like Canada, marijuana is already completely legal, and is
being produced at rapid speeds to strengthen the Canadian economy. On the other
hand, The United States is definitely not at the stage where the entire country
is on board with legalization, but the individual states that have legalized,
have shown economic prosperity. For a struggling country like Jamaica, a
legalization like this could be a huge change for their poor economy and high
crime rates. Jamaica is known to be a very soulful and happy nation, although they
are not a very wealthy country, and more on the poor side. Jamaica’s economy
revolves around agriculture and tourism, and they have a very low hunger rate,
but their farmers and citizens are poor due to the lack of employment, and thus
a lack of money circulating in the economy. The legalization of marijuana could
begin to change their economy rapidly if a bill was passed. That being said, is
the legalization of marijuana proven to bring countries more wealth, and do the
benefits of marijuana outweigh the drawbacks?
